The
weatherman forecasts sunny days – all weekend – with temperatures between 90°F
and 95°F. But in the morning it’s still cool enough to enjoy the cycling. It’s
an all uphill day – but nothing too steep. The Star Valley is getting more big
houses on the slopes of the hills. Suddenly we notice a tail on the road…
where’s the rest of the animal? It’s not that we want to see it, but my woman
has an image of a skunk running around without tale! When we want to take a
picture of cows eating their lunch, they all get scared and leave their food.
Only one or two brave young ones return and eat again. It must be me! And once again there is a tail of a skunk! Once in Thayne my woman gets disappointed: the cheese factory is closed – no ice cream! Well, it’s going to be a gas station stop then. From here the road climbs a bit more – it’s one of the first times we get to cycle this part without having to worry about getting caught in a rainstorm! My woman shows me some nice orange flowers – she thinks they are black eyed daisies!
We met three cyclists on this route – without luggage. They are just cycling for fun! As we roll into Afton, my woman’s memories go to the year 1993: her first Cycle America tour: we stayed here for two days in a school and during the night it snowed! It was very cold during the day and we bought a woolen scarf in the Wyoming Sports Outlet Store (which has disappeared). A woman gave us a book of John Saul to read… Now, sweat is running from my woman’s arms! The town has several liquor stores, a Pizza hut, a Burger King, a dollar shop a small book store and some bars. It makes one wonder how people can survive here.
The cheap motel has a small swimming pool, where all the kids of the neighborhood come to. Time to relax…tomorrow – my woman wonders – will the man be standing there at the Geneva junction? How will she cope with the two climbs? How warm will it get? Stop wondering woman and relax!
